What point in their timeline?: Post-game, after canon death
History: Kuja is an artificial humanoid alien known as a Genome. His place of creation was a wandering half-sentient planet, Terra, which absorbs other planets into its mass in order to exist. Kuja is special in that he was created in order to help drive this process by causing a flux in energy flow. This is characterized by the fact that he is one of only three Genomes containing an actual soul.
For the majority of his short life, Kuja learned and matured quickly, and used his powers and influence in order to cause war on another planet. In addition, he used the chaos of this war to gain more power so that he could kill his creator, Garland, whom he loathed. Ultimately enraged and terrified by his own mortality, Kuja engaged in a hellbent mission to end all existence. He was stopped by Zidane, a better model of souled Genome whom Kuja disposed of on Gaia.
His defeat at the hands of Zidane apparently caused a dramatic change in Kuja's outlook, although it was only in time enough for him to save Zidane and his friends from perishing at the mystical Iifa Tree. He died in Zidane's arms when the other attempted to rescue him against his wishes, but whether this is the cause of his injuries or of Garland's fail-safe remain unknown. Kuja's last memory is of dying in a stranger's company.
Personality: Pre-Haibane, Kuja was a manipulative schemer and war tactician who enjoyed the comforts of nobility. At the same time, he was quick to irritability and had a raw determination that sometimes blinded him to the dangers of his own decisions. He was (and still is) predominantly narcissistic, concerned over personal appearance both physically and professionally. The power he once held over two worlds gave him a God Complex.
Traces of this personality can still be seen: Kuja is sharp-tongued, distrusting, and judgmental, tends to be a reclusive creature, and thinks highly of himself, generally sneering bitterly at the world around him. He hates to be unsuccessful and has always struggled to prove his own personal worth. He remains unsatisfied by the gaping hole in his memories, and has marked regaining them as his primary goal.
